Hibiscus Margarita
A vibrant twist on the classic margarita, this version infuses the drink with the tart, floral depth of hibiscus tea for a bold yet refreshing sip.
Because every drink deserves a beautiful moment.
Ingredients
2 oz hibiscus tea concentrate (see below)
1 ½ oz tequila
½ oz Cointreau
½ oz lime juice
½ tsp simple syrup
For the Hibiscus Concentrate
½ cup water
A small handful of dried hibiscus leaves (link here)
1-2 tablespoon honey
Instructions:
Make the hibiscus concentrate: bring ½ cup water to a boil. Add a few dried hibiscus leaves and steep for 5–10 minutes. Strain, stir in honey, and let cool. You want this to be tart and just slightly sweet. Be sure to adjust honey amount if needed.
Add 2 oz of the concentrate to a shaker along with tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and simple syrup.
Add ice and shake vigorously for 20–30 seconds.
Strain into a lowball glass over ice.
Garnish with a lime wheel or a dried hibiscus flower.
Notes from the Bar
Tequila Choice
A blanco tequila keeps this margarita crisp and bright, while a reposado adds warmth and depth that plays nicely with the floral notes.
Balance the Sweetness
Taste your concentrate first. Hibiscus can be tart. Adjust the simple syrup up or down depending on how strong or tangy your brew is.
Garnish with Flair
A dried hibiscus flower adds a dramatic look, but you can also go simple with a lime wheel or even an orange peel twist to highlight the Cointreau.
Serve It Seasonally
Though floral and refreshing enough for summer, this drink’s jewel-tone color and tart depth also make it a striking choice for holiday gatherings.
