Blood Orange Allspice Margarita

A festive winter margarita made with fresh blood orange juice, lime, tequila, and a warming splash of allspice dram. Bright, spiced, and holiday-ready.

A blood-orange margarita served over crushed ice in a salt-rimmed rocks glass, garnished with a blood orange slice and a cinnamon stick.
Ingredients
  • 2 oz tequila (Blanco or Reposado)

  • 2 oz fresh blood orange juice

  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice

  • ½ oz allspice dram

  • ¼ oz agave syrup (eliminate if using a sugar rim)

  • Optional: coarse sugar or salt for the rim

  • Garnish: blood orange slice, cinnamon stick


Instructions
  1. Rim a rocks glass with salt or sugar and fill with crushed ice.

  2. Add tequila, blood orange juice, lime juice, allspice dram, and agave to a shaker.

  3. Fill with ice and shake for 10–12 seconds until very cold.

  4. Strain into the prepared glass.

  5. Garnish with a blood orange slice and cinnamon stick.


Notes from the Bar

Tequila Choice

Use Blanco for a bright, crisp margarita or Reposado for a warmer, rounder flavor that plays beautifully with the allspice dram.


Rim Options

This cocktail works with either a salt rim or a sugar rim. If you choose a sugar rim, you may want to skip or reduce the agave so the drink doesn’t lean too sweet.


Blood Orange Tip

Blood oranges vary in sweetness. If yours are very sweet, reduce the agave; if they’re tart, a touch extra may be perfect.


Allspice Dram

Allspice dram is potent. ½ oz is enough to bring warm holiday spice without overwhelming the citrus.


Ice Matters

Crushed ice gives this margarita its festive frostiness and softens the spices as it melts.


Batch for 6
  • 12 oz tequila

  • 12 oz blood orange juice

  • 4½ oz lime juice

  • 3 oz allspice dram

  • 1½–2 oz agave (adjust to taste or eliminate if using sugar rims)
    Shake each serving over ice before pouring.
