Chicken & Sausage Gumbo Prep: Cook the Chicken
If you’d like to get a head start, the whole chicken and broth can be prepared earlier in the day or even a day in advance. Simply cook the chicken as directed, then strain and refrigerate the broth and shredded chicken separately. When you’re ready to continue the gumbo, gently reheat the broth before building the soup base. Preparing this step ahead of time makes the cooking process feel more relaxed and allows the broth to develop even deeper flavor.
