Notes from the Bar

Heads up: We may earn a small commission on products we’ve linked here. We only recommend the real-deal favorites from our kitchen.

GRAPEFRUIT SODA VS CLUB SODA

Grapefruit soda (we like Jarritos or Q Grapefruit) amplifies the citrus and adds a light sweetness. Club soda keeps it drier and lets the fresh grapefruit juice lead. Both work beautifully depending on how sweet your strawberries are and your personal preference.

SKIP THE AGAVE FIRST

Fresh ripe strawberries bring significant sweetness. Make the drink without agave, taste it, and only add if needed. Starting without it keeps the drink bright and citrus-forward.

BLANCO KEEPS IT FRESH

A clean blanco tequila is the right call here. The light, grassy notes complement the strawberry and grapefruit without competing. Reposado can work but softens the brightness considerably.

BASIL TIP

Two leaves is enough. More than that and the basil starts to dominate. Be sure to muddle gently. You want the oils released, not the leaf shredded.

MAKE IT A MOCKTAIL

Use fresh-squeezed grapefruit and lime juice with muddled strawberry and basil, a small drizzle of agave, and top with grapefruit soda. Tastes like summer in a glass.

Because every drink deserves a beautiful moment.
