½ oz heavy cream
1 scant barspoon simple syrup
3 drops peppermint extract

NOTES FROM THE BAR
Heads up: We may earn a small commission on products we’ve linked here. We only recommend the real-deal favorites from our kitchen.
CRÈME DE CACAO CHOICE
We tested this recipe with Drillaud Crème de Cacao Dark, 25% ABV, which is relatively dry compared with many sweeter crème de cacao brands. The scant barspoon of simple syrup rounded out our version. If you use a sweeter crème de cacao, taste before adding the simple syrup, you may not need it.
PEPPERMINT EXTRACT
Three drops of peppermint extract gave us a clear peppermint note without overwhelming the mocha. A dropper makes it easy to add it in precise, controlled amounts rather than guessing from the bottle. → Shop our favorite dropper
CHOCOLATE BITTERS
Chocolate bitters are optional but add another layer of cocoa depth. Start with one dash and taste before adding a second.
SHAKE IT HARD
This one benefits from a longer, harder shake than a typical cocktail. The extra agitation helps aerate the cream and espresso together for that classic frothy top.
