COCKTAIL RECIPE
Makes 1 cocktail
2 oz blanco tequila
1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz orange liqueur
1/4 to 1/2 oz agave syrup
Coarse salt, for a half rim
Grapefruit wedge, for garnish
Run a lime wedge around half the rim of a rocks glass, dip it in coarse salt, and fill the glass with ice. Add the tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave to a shaker with ice and shake hard until very cold. Strain into the prepared glass and garnish with a grapefruit wedge.
NOTES FROM THE BAR
Heads up: We may earn a small commission on products we’ve linked here. We only recommend the real-deal favorites from our kitchen.
SWEETNESS TO TASTE
Grapefruit varies a lot from fruit to fruit. Start with 1/4 oz agave and taste before adding more. Ruby red grapefruit runs sweeter, while white grapefruit is more bitter and may need the full 1/2 oz.
WHY A HALF RIM
Salting only half the glass lets you choose each sip. Salt brings out the grapefruit’s sweetness and tames its bitterness, but sometimes you want it clean.
ORANGE LIQUEUR OPTIONS
Cointreau is our go-to for a bright, clean orange note. Triple sec works and is a little sweeter. Grand Marnier adds a richer, cognac-based depth that leans cozier.
MAKE IT A MOCKTAIL
Shake 2 oz grapefruit juice, 3/4 oz lime juice, and 1/4 oz agave with ice, strain over fresh ice, and top with sparkling water. Keep the salted rim, it makes it feel like the real thing.
