COCKTAIL RECIPE
Makes 1 cocktail
2 oz blanco tequila
½ ripe pear, diced
1 oz cranberry juice
¾ oz fresh lime juice
¼ oz agave syrup
White sugar and kosher salt, for the rim
Rim a rocks glass with the sugar-salt mixture, following the ratio in Notes from the Bar, and fill it with ice. Muddle the pear, lime juice, and agave thoroughly in a cocktail shaker, then add the tequila, cranberry juice, and ice. Shake hard and double strain into the prepared glass. Garnish with a thin pear fan or fresh cranberries.
NOTES FROM THE BAR
Heads up: We may earn a small commission on products we’ve linked here. We only recommend the real-deal favorites from our kitchen.
SUGAR-SALT RIM
Combine roughly 2 parts white sugar to 1 part kosher salt on a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass, then dip the rim into the mixture to coat.
WHY NO ORANGE LIQUEUR
We intentionally leave out orange liqueur here. Pear is delicate, and orange liqueur can easily overpower it. The simpler build lets the fresh pear and cranberry stay distinct.
DOUBLE STRAINING MATTERS
Since the pear gets muddled directly in the shaker, a double strain through a fine mesh strainer keeps small bits of fruit pulp out of the glass for a cleaner pour.
PEAR RIPENESS
Use a pear that's ripe but still holds its shape, a Bartlett or Anjou works well. Too soft and it won't muddle cleanly, too firm and it won't release enough juice.
