REPOSADO VS MEZCAL SPLIT

The reposado carries most of the pour so the drink still tastes like a margarita first, while the small mezcal float adds just enough smoke to make it interesting. If you want more smoke, nudge the split closer to even, but keep the total spirit at 2 ounces.

SMOKED SALT RIM

Run a lime wedge around half the rim of the glass, then dip the wet half into smoked salt to coat. A partial rim keeps every sip from turning salty and lets the blackberry flavor lead. → Shop our favorite smoked salt

DOUBLE STRAINING MATTERS

Muddled blackberries leave behind seeds and pulp, so straining through a shaker strainer and then a fine mesh strainer keeps the texture smooth in the glass.

DRIED LIME GARNISH

Dried lime wheels bring a faded, almost autumnal color and a little extra texture on top of the drink without watering anything down. They hold their shape for weeks, so they are worth making a batch of once the fall cocktail lineup gets going. → Shop our favorite dehydrator
